Therapy is a journeyPsychotherapy is typically not a quick fix although sometimes significant change can occur after a couple of sessions. The length of therapy depends on a range of factors and together we can determine what will best suit your needs, budget and what you are hoping to achieve from therapy.
Emotionally safe environmentThe therapeutic process can be uncomfortable and confronting, as previously denied or avoided aspects of self and experience are uncovered and sometimes explored for the first time. This can sometimes result in a temporary increase in emotional distress. An important aim of the psychotherapy process is to support you as you process and integrate these painful elements of your experience in an emotionally safe and healing therapeutic space.
Meaningful therapyCurrent research in psychology suggests that much of our suffering arises out of our best intentioned efforts to change, suppress, eliminate or control painful events and challenges that arise in life. Psychological flexibility is the path out of suffering. To lead a psychologically flexible life we need to value acceptance and willingness, adopt a kind and compassionate stance towards self, and have the courage to make room for the inevitable pain of life. The psychotherapy process can help you to access the inner resources that best support you to do so.
